Frontend MCP Server

The Frontend MCP server gives agents access to the parts of a project they can’t reach from the sandbox: its Frontend Cloud database, its media library, its deploy logs and environment variable names, and image and video generation. Every project has it, enabled by default.

ToolWhat it doesNeeds
databaseschema lists the tables and columns; query runs any SQL (SQLite dialect), including writes and schema changes. The project’s database
medialist, upload (from a URL) and delete files in the project’s media library. Returns each file’s public URL.—
generate_imageGenerates or edits images from prompts, optionally with reference images, and saves them to the media library.OpenRouter
generate_videoStarts a video generation and returns a ticket.OpenRouter
check_videoChecks a video started with generate_video; when it’s done, the video is saved to the media library.OpenRouter
VERCEL_DEPLOY_LOGSlist shows recent deployments (production deploys and share previews) with their state; view reads one deployment’s build logs, by default the live one’s.A deployment
LIST_ENV_VAR_KEYSLists the names of the project’s environment variables and the environments each applies to. Values are never returned.—

Image and video generation run on your team’s own OpenRouter account, so OpenRouter bills the usage directly and Frontend doesn’t charge credits. Without a connected account, the tools ask you to connect OpenRouter in Team → Integrations.

Requests carry the project’s Frontend API key as a Bearer token:

Authorization: Bearer fe_sk_...

Every project gets a key when it’s created, saved in its FRONTEND_API_KEY environment variable. The key identifies the project, so requests never name one. Manage keys in Settings → API Keys. Treat them like passwords.

To use the server from an agent on your computer, add it with the project’s API key. For Claude Code:

Terminal window
claude mcp add --transport http frontend https://mcp.frontend.co/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer fe_sk_..."

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP works the same way: point it at the URL and send the Authorization header.
