Terminal Agents

Frontend runs the terminal coding agents you’d use on your own machine — Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Pi — against your project’s sandbox. Each one works on the real project files, runs commands in the same environment as your dev server, and sees the preview update as it edits.

Frontend doesn’t resell AI or charge for agent usage. Each agent signs in with your own account, the same way it does on your computer:

  • Claude Code — a Claude Pro or Max subscription, or an Anthropic API key
  • Codex — a ChatGPT plan, or an OpenAI API key
  • OpenCode and Pi — the model provider of your choice, with a subscription login or an API key

Sign in the first time you open an agent. Logins are saved, encrypted, to your Frontend account — not to the project — so you sign in once and the agent is ready in every project and on either runtime. Your teammates sign in with their own accounts.

  • Open an agent from the Agents group in the sidebar. It opens in the left panel next to the preview.
  • Run several at once. Each agent keeps running when you switch to another, so you can have Claude Code building a feature while OpenCode writes tests.
  • Restart an agent from the panel’s menu if it gets stuck.
  • Point at the page. Use Select an element in the preview toolbar to paste an element’s source location into the agent’s prompt.
  • Pick up where you left off. Claude Code and OpenCode keep each project’s conversations; reopen one with /resume or /sessions.
  • The project’s files and terminal. Agents can read and edit any file, install packages and run commands like type checks and tests.
  • Environment variables. The project’s Preview environment variables are available in the sandbox.
  • MCP servers. The project’s MCP servers — its database, media and image generation, connected integrations, and any servers you add — are configured in Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode before they start. Pi doesn’t support MCP.
  • Instructions for the sandbox. Claude Code is given a short CLAUDE.md describing the sandbox, such as how to install packages and that the dev server is already running.
  • Media and document tools. ffmpeg, ffprobe, pdftotext and pdfinfo are installed in the browser sandbox.

To give an agent project-specific instructions, add the file it reads to your project, such as CLAUDE.md for Claude Code or AGENTS.md for Codex, OpenCode and Pi.

Everything an agent changes is an unsaved change until you Save it as a version, so you can review what it did, keep it, or clear it. On the server runtime, agents don’t commit to git themselves; save in Frontend, and sync to GitHub if you’ve connected it.
